Create your first project
A project holds your sites, your competitors and your keywords under one tracking setup.
A project is usually one site to track. It holds your domains, your competitors' domains, your keywords and the search settings that apply to all of them.
Creating one
From Projects, click Add a project. Everything fits in one panel, in three columns you fill in whatever order suits you before saving.
- 1Name and logoThe name is used everywhere: in the interface, in reports and as the identifier in the API. The logo is optional and appears on report covers. Images up to 5 MB.
- 2KeywordsOne keyword per line. You can tag them as you go with the
keyword, tag1, tag2syntax. Duplicates are removed and counted as you type. - 3Sites, competitors and settingsYour domains under My sites, the ones you watch under Competitors, then the country, language, device and check frequency.
https:// is added for you if you leave it out.Search settings
| Setting | Choices | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Country | 117 countries | Sets which Google is queried. |
| Language | 118 languages | Independent of the country: you can track a French SERP in English. |
| Device | Desktop or Mobile | A keyword can be tracked on both; each counts as one tracked keyword. |
| Frequency | Daily, Every 2 days, Weekly, Monthly | Changeable at any time, keyword by keyword. See Frequencies. |
| Depth | Top 60 | Fixed, not adjustable: every check reads 6 pages of results. |
The estimate before you save
The panel shows live what your setup will cost: the monthly amount, the number of result pages per month and how long your balance lasts. If the balance is empty, a notice says so and offers to top up.
Editing or deleting
Clicking the project name reopens the same panel in edit mode. The text areas are the source of truth there:
- Adding a line under Keywords creates the keyword, and the matching pages are charged straight away, unless another of your projects already tracks it (same country, language and device) and you already paid for it today (UTC day): it then shares that check, at no extra cost.
- Removing a line deletes the keyword and its delivery history.
- Removing a domain from My sites or Competitors takes it out of the project.
Several projects
The number of projects is not limited and does not enter the bill. One project per client, brand or market is the simplest way to keep reports readable.
