How a check works
What the tool fetches, how deep it reads and what it keeps.
A check is a real Google search, run for one keyword, country, language and device, whose first 60 results are read.
Depth is fixed
Every keyword is tracked to Top 60. There is no depth to choose: it is the same check, at the same price, for everyone. A site that does not appear in those 60 results counts as unranked for that keyword that day.
What gets recorded
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Position | The tracked domain's best rank on the checked SERP. |
| Ranking URL | The page that ranks. If the domain ranks with several URLs, they expand under the row. |
| Previous position | The rank on the previous check day, or on the comparison date you picked. |
| Best position (period) | The best rank reached over the period shown. With no check in the period, the position shown. |
| Best position (all time) | The best rank ever reached since tracking began. |
| AI Overview | Whether an AI Overview appeared, and whether your domain is among its sources. |
| Full SERP | Results 1 to 60 with title, URL and description, for the latest capture. |
When a check fires
Every night the tool looks at which keywords are due: the ones whose last check is at least their frequency's interval old. They join a queue that is worked through continuously, project by project, so nobody monopolises it.
- 1The keyword becomes dueDaily means one day since the last check, weekly seven days, and so on.
- 2It joins the queueManual requests jump ahead and skip the wait.
- 3The SERP is readThe 60 results, any AI Overview and the capture date are stored.
- 4Pages are deducted6 pages come off your balance for each check of a keyword on a device, once even if several of your projects track it. Desktop and mobile are two checks.
Refreshing right away
Rather than waiting for the next scheduled check, Refresh puts one or more keywords at the front of the queue. It is the same check at the same rate, and the result replaces the day's capture.
- From a SERP's detail: the Refresh button states how many pages it uses.
- From the table: select rows, then Refresh.
- From the Keywords page, to refresh across every project.
- Through the API:
POST /api/keywords/refresh.
While a check is queued the row shows a pending indicator, and the position updates itself as soon as the result lands.
